"Our room was beautiful. It had a king size bed and the en-suite bathroom was a good size. The only downside was that the toilet flush handle was broken but still worked. It could have done with better lighting in the bathroom as you couldn’t see in the mirror very well. The room was immaculately clean and had a sofa and tv with easy to connect to WiFi. Personally I struggled with comfort of the bed as I found it too soft but it was dressed with clean sheets and had extra pillows in the wardrobe....

"Lovely traditional English guest house hotel. Simple arrival and check out, good breakfast with great options (menu choice, vegan, veggie, gf etc). "The hotel is well situated from Durham city, about 10-15 minutes drive to either The Riverwalk or Walkergate very central car parks. The family room (3 people) was comfortable, cleaned every day and spacious. The hotel has a great Thai restaurant and pub/bar (food and drinks in both areas, affordable prices). The staff is friendly and helpful. Highly recommended."

"Do not be put off by the fact I gave it 4 stars for comfort - part of its charm is nothing is straight in the place. The windows, doors and often the floors are wonky. But is really is a fantastic place to stay. Where else are you going to walk through a wardrobe to your bathroom. Lovely None of the pics I uploaded do it justice "

Our favourite hotel

"Greeted by the lovely Danielle on reception who is a credit to the hotel, we had another lovely stay at the hotel. We are regular visitors to the copthorne, mainly on a Sunday, food is great and rooms are really comfortable. The car park is ideal and its a bonus that you get a discount for being a guest. We will definitely be back soon"

"Really impressed with Motel One. Better than expected. Reception staff were first class, explained everything clearly and succinctly and were very welcoming. Rooms were very clean and bed was extremely comfortable. Location wise, obviously having the Bigg Market on the doorstep isn't ideal on a Friday or Saturday night, but room was quiet. I'd stay here again because value for money is outstanding."

Perfect stay at a great price

"Hotel was lovely. We had a one night stay there just after new year for a funeral. We were able to check in on time. We got a space at the rear of the building for parking and the room was very clean and tidy. Looked very modern and homely. We were based in the Carlton building across the road under the same hotel. Would stay again "
