Despite being marketed as a "Stunning Lake Cottage," compared to other places I’ve stayed, this one felt fairly average. The location was ideal, and the interior was clean and welcoming, but the exterior cleanliness was disappointing. The windows, patio furniture, and decorative lighting were covered in dead bugs and spider webs, indicating neglect.
Guests staying in the lower-level bedroom should note that the well water filtration system backflushes at 2:40 AM and for nearly an hour every few days. The noise woke me up, and despite the host's assurance it wouldn’t happen again, I was awakened by the same issue days later.
Guests are also responsible for servicing the hot tub with water and chemicals, but it wouldn’t heat up when I tried to use it. During my stay, I encountered four issues: the loud backflush, a broken iron, a clothes dryer not working, and the hot tub not heating. The host responded 75% of the time, but one issue was resolved - iron replaced.
I contacted VRBO customer support after getting no response from the host regarding the hot tub. Afterward, I received a message from the host, stating that “pursuant to your litany … of trivial complaints” I had the option to leave the next day and refunded the remaining night.
Every host hopes for a five-star review, but that has to be earned through attention to detail, responding to, and fulfilling a guest's concern. It's the little things that make a stay exceptional, and unfortunately, this one fell short.
