We have never stayed in a La Quinta and were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. But it fell apart quickly. The refrigerator was broken, which spoiled our food for our cross country trip. In the morning the line for breakfast was out the door. The elevator was broken in the lobby. When I went to tell someone at the front desk (there had been no one there for the enire time I was at breakfast) I rang the bell and was scolded by a woman who emerged from a dark office "I'm coming." She then informed me she aware that the elevator was broken. Surprising seeing as she had done nothing to help the guests (perhaps a sign with directions to the stairs). In the end, it reinforced my original perception that I do not ever want to stay in a La Quinta again.
