Roller coasters twist and turn across the seven-acre (three-hectare) Nickelodeon Universe. The rides rise up all four stories of the huge Mall of America. Follow the bright signs or the Nickelodeon TV characters to your favorite ride and don’t miss the opportunity to meet Dora or SpongeBob SquarePants.
The amusement park is a great escape for children of all ages after a morning of shopping at Mall of America, which is the biggest covered mall in the United States. Younger fans of Nickelodeon will enjoy Blue’s Skidoo and Diego’s Rescue Rider, both slower-paced rides. The Balloon Race and Big Rigs are also good for younger crowds.
All rides have height restrictions however, a chaperoned ride is possible on specified rides. Accompany your child on the Dutchman’s Deck Ghostly Gangplank & Anchor Drop adventure course or swing through the sky on Backyardigans Swing-A-Long. The biggest thrills are found on the largest roller coasters The Orange Streak, Spongebob SquarePants Rock Bottom Plunge and Avatar Airbender are popular choices.
Control your own course on the Brain Surge or get thrown around the hairpin turns on the Fairly Odd Coaster. There is also plenty to see and do if you’re not quite up for thrill seeking. Talking Spanish with Dora the Explorer or giving Spongebob a squeeze is a must!
Nickelodeon Universe is inside Mall of America in Bloomington and is open daily. It is situated between Minneapolis and St. Paul, about a 15-minute drive each way, and there are many public transport options. Parking is free and so is entry to the park, but you must purchase a ride ticket to enjoy the rides. Check which ride ticket gives you and your children the best deal for multiple rides.
