Smells like an ashtray, old cigarette smell

I arrived at the property to discover that it smells like someone used to smoke in there. I really hate the smell of cigarettes, especially the smell of a place that used to be smoked in. I got a headache right away from being in the room and just checking it out. I immediately contacted the host and told them that I was unable to stay because of this issue, returned the key, and left to find a local hotel. The communication with the host seemed very formal and professional, until I realized it was being generated by AI. The host does not speak English, which I discovered through a phone call mediated by VRBO customer service. Before I called VRBO the host said they could not issue a refund and that I had to go through Vrbo to get a refund, which was not true. Then the host still refused to give me a refund, even though VRBO said it would help process that. I was not even offered a partial refund. So, I paid for four nights, even though I only stepped foot in the place and did not stay. And I had to pay for a hotel on top of that. Terrible.
