Sliding enthusiasts can tour the facility or book ahead for an actual ride down the famous Olympic track of the Whistler Sliding Centre, which was built for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
Located within the Fitzsimmons Valley, on the southeast slope of the Blackcomb Mountain, the site was selected with two goals in mind: minimizing environmental impact and idealizing ice maintenance. The track features a significant number of preserved trees, for shade, and substantial infrastructure, including road access.
The Whistler Sliding Centre stays busy as one of the world’s few international sliding tracks and hosts multiple sliding events. You are welcome to stop in during any of the official competitions, but may be required to pay a small entry fee.
Public sliding programs usually begin in December and end in March. Thrill seekers can ride down the actual track with a professional as your pilot, or go alone during a head-first Skeleton Slide. Feel the thrill as your speed nears 75 miles (125 kilometers) per hour on a bobsleigh. The pace slows on the skeleton sled as this is a less steep ride. Competitive athletes take the turns at breathtaking speeds, but your skilled guide will ensure you have an unforgettable experience at a safer pace.
Summer visitors can stop by for a free, self-guided tour along the actual track and learn about the center’s history and the unusual lifestyle of some notable athletes.
Whistler Sliding Centre is a mile (1.6 kilometers) from Whistler Village. Park in the designated visitor area or hop on the WAVE bus and walk the short path from the bus stop to the facility. The more scenic way to get there in winter is by boarding the Blackcomb Excalibur Gondola from Whistler Village. You’ll end your gondola ride at Base II and walk the short distance to the center.
Be advised that you have to call ahead to reserve a ride. When taking the tour, watch out for bears. Groups are welcome, but advised to reserve in advance and arrive early.

Bobsledding or skeleton either one you won’t be upset you went. If you are going to do it, might as well do it at the fastest track in the world. Amazing experience! It’s seriously a must do in Whistler.
