The Vieques Ferry Terminal is a busy port that welcomes visitors to Vieques. It has regular direct passages to and from Fajardo, on the main island of Puerto Rico. Enjoy the scenic views of the Atlantic Ocean and Puerto Rico’s many islands from the boat.
Choose a seat on board the boat. Certain parts of the ferry are air conditioned. The travel time to Fajardo is about 75 minutes, although the passage can take longer on busy days or in bad weather. Consider motion sickness pills for the ride over rough or rolling seas.
Arrive at the port at least 30 minutes before your departure. Make sure to bring sufficient snacks and water, since the terminal is fairly bare. Go to one of the restaurants and cafés across the road for a quick meal while you wait. Watch the sailboats and ferries on the move in the water and snap photos of the picturesque verdant hills of the Vieques coastline.
Weekend trips to Fajardo on the main island of Puerto Rico are particularly busy, so you should purchase tickets in advance online, by telephone or at the harbor. Pay a fee for the ticket and get discounts for kids at the harbor office, which opens Monday through Friday from morning until evening and for a shorter period on Saturday.
The daily schedule includes departures from Vieques at sunrise and a few more journeys throughout the day. You can sometimes take a rental car aboard for an additional fee. Check with the rental company and ferry operator in advance.
The Vieques Ferry Terminal is on the northern shore of the central part of Vieques Island. Walk north from the heart of Isabel II for about 5 minutes to get here. Visit nearby attractions, including Muñoz Rivera Plaza, the Iglesia Catolica and Sea Glass Beach.
