Seven-Star Park

Guilin’s largest park is encircled by mountains and dotted with historic artifacts. Hike through the green expanse and sightsee its many treasures.

Enjoy a peaceful ramble though the natural surroundings of Seven-Star Park, a beautiful spot on the Li River. Ever since the Sui and Tang dynasties in the 6th and 7th centuries, visitors have enjoyed the park’s tree-covered valleys, streams, caves and pagodas, covering more than 297 acres (120 hectares).

Enter the park and walk across the Flower Bridge. This is Guilin’s oldest bridge and was built between the 10th and 13th centuries. Explore the seven peaks of Putuo Mountain and Crescent Mountain, after which the park is named. Their positions relative to each other are said to resemble the pattern of the Big Dipper constellation of stars. Hike up their slopes for superb views over the lush landscape.

On Putuo Mountain you will find Bixu Cave, filled with stalactites, stalagmites and fascinating forms created by the erosion of limestone. Take a guided tour through the cave, then wind your way along the forested path to the peak, which is topped with pavilions. Your ascent takes you past ancient tombs and inscribed stone tablets.

Crescent Peak has a forest of engraved stone tablets, known as the Guihai Stele Forest. There are more than 200 of these upright stones with some dating back to the 7th century.

You can also see lots of animals while you are at the park. Visit the small zoo near Camel Hill for its pandas, tigers and elephants. Elsewhere in the park, enjoy the company of the free-roaming peacocks and monkeys.

For relaxation, the teahouse near Camel Hill is a good spot. From here, enjoy views of the ancient plum trees planted by a hermit during the Ming Dynasty.

Seven-Star Park is a short bus ride from downtown Guilin and there is an entry fee. It is open daily from early morning until dark, but closes during the coldest winter months. One of the best times to come here is in spring when the trees are covered with blossoms.
