Watch parliament in action from the public gallery of this classical building that plays a major role in Finnish and European politics.

Parliament Building reflects its importance to the nation with a majestic neoclassical façade and imposing columns. It is the seat of the parliament and was completed in 1931. Learn about the key moments in Finland’s history, such as those during the Continuation War and the Winter War, that occurred at this iconic site.

Note how the building blends neoclassicism with modernism, generating a stripped classical design. It is among the largest and most recognizable buildings in the city. Cross the road to fit the building in your photos. Relax with a picnic on a patch of grass in full view of the building. Watch performance artists at work in this vibrant area.

Admire the large outdoor steps that lead to the 14 columns with Corinthian capitals on the granite façade. Enter the historic site and watch the 200-seat parliament in session in the public gallery on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Go to the Visitor Center on the left side of the building for information about the site. The impressive main lobby and marble staircase occupy the first floor.

See the Hall of State, the reception hall and the stately plenary chamber. Enjoy snacks and refreshments on the first-floor restaurant or second-floor café.

Learn about the role of the building, where decisions are made regarding the European Union, international treaties and the election of a Finnish prime minister.

The building is open Monday through Friday from morning until late afternoon.
