Saginaw’s scenic island park offers a lovely setting for outdoor recreation, lakeside relaxation and a wide range of special events.

Ojibway Island is a green oasis of calm in the heart of downtown Saginaw. This lovely island looks out onto the Saginaw River on one side and Lake Linton on the other, providing a scenic respite from the rush of daily life. Take a relaxing walk, enjoy a picnic or mingle with locals at a community concert or event.

The property of Ojibway Island was donated to the city by Ezra Rust, a local businessman who grew wealthy through the timber industry. He was deeply engaged in the civic life of Saginaw. Reflect on this fabulous gift to public life as you explore this tranquil domain, as residents have done since 1905.

Positioned between the river and the lake, Ojibway Island offers extensive waterfront scenery. Savor the lovely perspective over the water for sunrise or sunset views. Bring a picnic to share in a shady spot or drop a line and fish from one of the island’s docks.

Take a leisurely stroll around the island, which is encircled by a paved drive. Breathe the fresh air, look for willow trees and greet the geese and seagulls as you go. If you have more energy, jog or ride a bike along the path instead.

For a longer adventure, follow the trail from the island to join the City of Saginaw Riverwalk, which links Ojibway to other green spaces in the area such as Webber Park, Hoyt Park and Wickes Park. The Saginaw Children’s Zoo at Celebration Square and the Japanese Cultural Center and teahouse are also located nearby.

Many of the city’s most beloved events take place on Ojibway Island, including the Fourth of July fireworks and the WKCQ Country Music Fest. Check online in advance to see what is scheduled during your visit.

Ojibway Island is located on the Saginaw River, a short walk or drive from downtown Saginaw. Access the island most easily from Ezra Rust Drive on the south side. Some parking is available on the island itself. Entry is free.
