About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Peace on the Prairie Too - Tiny House, Pets Allowed, No cleaning fee.

Peace on the Prairie Too is a 570 square foot two-story Tiny House offering the peace, quiet, and tranquility that you're searching for for a relaxing time away. Whether it’s a business trip, romantic time together with your significant other, a family vacation, a girl's time away, a secluded spot to work on your music, writing, art, star gazing, or a reconnection with nature, you'll find your inspiration and renewal in this natural rural setting away from the sounds of the city.

This stand-alone house is located on a 24-acre prairie restoration with forest on two sides and agricultural fields on the other two sides. Like watching nature, star gazing, birding, butterflies, fireflies, and deer? Like peace and quiet? This is an exceptional location for those looking to get away for a while — even if just for a night. Except for the occasional car on the country road, this location offers a respite from the sounds and smells of the city and is a very good area for nature watching. There are no less than 100 bird species during the year, many dragonfly and butterfly species, several ponds, deer, rabbits, mink, coyotes, fox, at least five species of fireflies, and much more in this wildlife sanctuary. We maintain many trails for leisurely walks through the prairie and a timber area allowing you to relax and explore the native grasses, flowers, trees, wildlife and the opportunity to reconnect with nature.

The ground level floor consists of a living/dining area, full kitchen, bathroom with a full-size shower, washer and dryer, automatic dishwasher, and a queen size futon. All cooking utensils, glasses, dishes, silverware, etc., are provided. A gas grill is also provided for outdoor grilling.

The full-size second floor is the primary area for sleeping with a king size bed and a second queen size futon. This floor also has an eclectic reading library, a working table for your laptop or tablet and a small display shelf with honey produced on the property and coffee mugs for sale. The second floor also has walk out access to the covered deck overlooking 16 acres of native prairie, timber and two ponds.

This is a two-story building that is NOT HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE. If you need a handicap accessible place to stay, try our other rental Peace on the Prairie, located on the same property

Highly Recommend
The place is really comfortable, and the trails and nature around are perfect for exploring, especially with my dog. It was so easy to relax and just enjoy the quiet. Great spot if you want a break from it all and don’t want to worry about leaving your pet behind. Definitely recommend!

Cool European, hippie vibes
We heard 36 different birds in 10 minutes during breakfast. The hosts’ respect of nature and all people oozes from all the little extras. The humans, dogs, and birds echo that sentiment.

The name says it all
Though bigger than my home in Key West, the name Peace on the Prairie Too - Tiny House describes it perfectly. Just a little off the beaten path with no homes too nearby, it was exactly what I had hoped for. The communication from the hosts was spot on, and the chocolate chip cookies were a real treat! Next time I visit family in the area, I will return for a longer stay.

Great place to get away and relax
Me and my girlfriend needed a weekend away from home but decided to bring our dogs with us! This property is very clean, secluded, and has many walking paths attached to it. The only thing is, bring tick repellent and make sure any pets have flea and tick prevention. Ticks are prevalent but not a trip ruiner. The stars are bright, the birds are prevalent, and the pollinators are pollinating. Great getaway spot for any nature lover or pet owner. Kevin was very kind and very helpful throughout the weekend.

Perfection!
The house was amazing, and the property was gorgeous! The owner thought of everything that we may need, it was a well though out floor plan, clean, faced away from the road for privacy, we watched the sun rise and sun set on the top balcony every day that we stayed, and it was peaceful! He welcomes dogs, which we communicated that we had 3 larger breeds, and even asked us as we departed if they enjoyed their stay to. That was sweet! Hes a friendly guy, and the best part was that his wife made homemade cookies for us on our arrival! Delicious! One thing I would highly suggest that the owner does as well is tick medicine for animals, and spray for yourself! Ticks were bad for sure but we were prepared for it thank god.

Nice easy getaway
We enjoyed our stay; that is once the grass was cut. We contacted owner and they took care of it promptly but our first nights stay we could not walk the trails and property due to grass being overgrown; our second night was great. We enjoyed bird watching here and walking the trails at nearby Jacksonville Lake as well.

Near tranquility in a beautiful location
This was a lovely location that almost checked all of my boxes. I stayed at Peace on the Prairie Too for a seven day solo silent retreat. I’ve been searching for a location that is remote with no “extra” noises other than nature while having the creature comforts of ac (end of July in the Midwest is hot) and running water. I’ll start with the great parts. The property itself was lovely. It was cute, comfortable, and provided most of all I needed. The homemade cookies were fantastic. There were nicely mowed and well kept paths throughout the property. It was great for bird watching (I had a blue bunting and hummingbird that kept a close eye on me every day)! There were no other people that came into my area so it was nice and private. The host Kevin was kind and prompt in his communications with me. Now the less great parts. When I contacted Kevin about the property I asked about noise level (since I was looking for silence). He guaranteed me it would be quiet, however construction was being completed on his home. Unfortunately it was quite loud and occurred every week day. A couple of rain storms came through and shortened the work a couple of the days which helped. I would have liked to know that there was going to be construction work. I would have chosen a different location. The only other thing was the cleanliness of the home. It was picked up and fine, but there was a decent amount of dust on the blinds, fans, less used tables, etc., cobwebs in high corners, and the windows needed some attention. I may be pickier than others though. They had a electric kettle- which was fantastic since I drank a lot of tea. I am glad I looked inside it before use however. There was mold inside the kettle and it needed a good soaking/cleaning. All and all, I had a lovely and spiritually rich retreat and would stay there again in the future. Thank you for having this space available for people to get away from the hubbub of life.

Peace On The Prairie, Indeed
Peace on the Prairie Too is an adorable tiny cottage off the beaten path, but not so far off the beaten path that I couldn’t stay there for just one night on my way from Ohio to Nebraska. Appropriately named, the cottage was very peaceful with lots of nature to appreciate. The check in procedure was not without problems, but that wasn’t the fault of the host. Interface issues with VRBO seemed to be the culprit. I hope to return, with my camera equipment, and stay a little longer!

Wonderful Get-Away in Nature Stay
We so enjoyed staying at Peace on the Prairie Too. The small house is delightfully well-appointed and had all needed amenities and then some! The upstairs king bedroom was comfortable with second-story porch space to enjoy views of the prairie. The trails were bird-watching heaven, and our golden retriever enjoyed being able to run through the grass. Our favorite moments were seeing an indigo bunting and red-headed woodpecker while we drank coffee on the porch, and enjoying the fabulous night sky next to a bonfire in the firepit. The gas grill worked perfectly for yummy grilling. The hosts thoughtfully provided homemade cookies, which were delicious; and Kevin, the owner, was available for any questions we had. The location is in the country, but it is only a 20 minute drive to Jacksonville, which we enjoyed exploring as well because of its history. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return.
