This popular town square, adjacent to excellent dining and lively bars is home to one of Key West’s longest-running traditions. Perched on the edge of the Gulf of Mexico, Mallory Square hosts Key West’s Sunset Celebration every evening of the year. Watch as the square bursts with color and sound as hundreds of visitors to the island converge to watch one of the most picturesque sunsets in the United States. Surrounding the square are some of Key West’s best restaurants, great shopping and hotels catering to all budgets.
Arrive at Mallory Square 2 hours prior to sunset to see the celebration kicking off. Street performers spread themselves out across the square. You’ll have the chance to listen to live music, be transfixed by magicians and illusionists or laugh at the antics of clowns. Enjoy an ice cream as you walk around or pick up some local street food from the food carts that occupy part of the square.
Move between artisans booths lining the square as you look for souvenirs. At shops behind Mallory, you’ll find stunning natural shells and sponges as well as art and jewelry.
As the sun gets closer to the horizon all eyes turn toward the gulf. Position your group in a good spot to see pink and red tones flood the sky as the sun disappears. Take a photo to remember the occasion.
After sunset the lively atmosphere around the square continues into the night, with restaurants serving local dishes and cocktail bars providing entertainment and refreshments for the crowds still mingling in the area. This is a great time to meet fellow vacationers and Key West locals.
Mallory Square is a public space located in Key West's harborfront downtown. It can easily be reached on foot or by bicycle from most accommodations on the island. There is a large pay-to-park parking lot but those those arriving for the Sunset Celebration should avoid driving since crowds can make it hard to find a spot to park.
