Was peaceful and quiet, staff are very friendly and helpful

Tracey the cleaner at the front area was very helpful with guidance on how to walk to town and when she saw us the following day she asked if we had found the town OK which was a lovely touch

The host was very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Excellent breakfast clean and comfortable. Nothing to dislike

We booked one night as we were spending Christmas with relatives near by and this hotel has a reputation for being excellent. The staff on reception were friendly but unfortunately it went down hill from there. Our room was on the second floor about as far from reception as possible. I think this must be because we booked through Expedia as we have experienced this at other hotels when booking through an agency. The lift was situated down some stairs from reception and the stair lift was out of order so not great for disabled guests. The corridors were quite nice and looked as if they had new carpets. The room was a different story quite small, which wasn't a problem, and the beds were comfortable although the duvet cover had some stains on it. The cover had been laundered so just a bit disappointing that it wasn't checked before being put on the bed. The net curtains were dirty and had a number of holes and splits in them. One of the bath towels had a big hole in it. The decor was tired and there was a lot of peeling paint around the windows. The heating was traditional radiators but we couldn't turn it off so the room was too hot. The carpet definitely needs cleaning. The wardrobe had 4 hangers with no draw or shelf space or even a stand to put a case on! Having said that, it was quiet and served the purpose. OK for one night but I wouldn't want to spend more than one night.
