Once the work is done on it, and if they cleaned it properly. Work was being done on one of the bedrooms/bathrooms, and I (as the booker of the trip) elected to sleep in the bedroom/bathroom that was full of items like tools, broken glass, construction debris, 1/2 eaten snacks and drinks and covered in drywall dust. When I laid on the bed, my back was covered in drywall dust, as were my socks after walking around for 5 minutes.. The pedestal sink in the bathroom wasn't connected to the ground, and wobbly, the bathtub hardware (drains) weren't all attached, and it was covered in dirt.. There were pots and pans with food stuck to it, mold on the plates and utensils in the cabinets, cat hair on one of the other beds, the entire floor was dirty, some of the doors didn't close or have door handles (including exterior doors that we had to prop furniture against to ensure it couldn't be opened), and there was red spatter under the kitchen cabinets, hopefully from sloppy cooking of previous tenants. There was also tons of trash piled up outside.. like 6 broken vacuum cleaners, and random house debris thrown around outside on the side of the house.
Otherwise, the place is large, but only 5 bedrooms, not 6 as stated on the site (they count the living room as a bedroom because it has a daybed in the corner), and would be great for a large group of people, but as of now, they need to iron out a bunch of kinks.
As for the owner, she was not receptive at all to my request for a partial refund (not even the cleaning fee) due to the state of the place when we got there. She stated that she was sorry, but a previous renter damaged the place, but looking at the past reviews, that was a long time ago. If they couldn't have the place fixed by then, they could have given us a heads up ahead of time, as opposed to us arriving, and having to choose between accepting the place in disarray, or having to scramble to find a new place for our large party last minute. I did everything I could to be reasonable with her, and even offered to focus my review on the "potential" of the space to be nice if she'd do the right thing, but she refused. I will commend Vrbo on stepping up and refunding their service charge, since they understood I was being wronged.
I gave 2 stars because the place has potential to be 4 stars, but it needs a lot of work, a new cleaning company, and an attitude adjustment from the owner.
