Ski Weekend
We were very happy with the house and the location to Hunter Mountain. The owners, Peter and Lara were very welcoming and easy to communicate with. The hot tub was much appreciated after a day of skiing and the air hockey table was a hit.

Long Ski Weekend
The house was fantastic. Close to Hunter Mountain Ski Resort and a cute one street town. Peter and Lara had both wood burning stoves going for us when we arrived. The house is wonderful with a fun separate hang out place for the kids. Well equipped kitchen. Comfortable beds. Hot tub with wonderful views. All the firewood you could ever need. We will be back for sure!

Wonderful Vacation!!
Peter and Lara were wonderful and responsive hosts. The house and property were beautiful. Perfect for our two families, one with teens and one with toddlers. We enjoyed the salt water pool everyday and warmed up in the hot tub in the evenings.

Lovely summer holiday
Perfect for a family vacation surrounded by nature in a quiet country home with lots of amenities and space to spread out. Our stay included relaxing days of pool side fun, dips in the hot tub, ventures to nearby hikes, stargazing and bird watching. Air hockey, table shuffleboard, games & puzzles provided welcome rainy day distractions. Peter and Lara are friendly, responsive hosts, readily available to answer all questions and requests.

Mountain House
The house has all the amenities you would need for a stay. Peter was available to answer all my questions but otherwise let us be. The house is not air conditioned but there were fans in every room. You may want to bring an extra fan or two. The pool was big and the kids had a great time. My biggest complaint was that the umbrella to the table on the outdoor deck was broken and never replaced. It was quite warm all week and it would have been nice to have some shade as we sat outside frequently. Overall, what you’d expect from the pictures.

Liked: Cleanliness
Family getaway
We had a good time at the chalet. We are city people. Although it is understood we were in the woods, we were still used to more cleanliness in a cabin/chalet. Be prepared for cobweb everywhere, ants and bugs on the inside. The pictures on the site are a true depiction of the place so you are not misled. Definitely think the place overall would benefit from some renovation and adding comfortable beds would be a plus! It does get pretty hot and given the fact there’s no Acs more fans would be great. Definitely felt that Lara was a more sociable host than Peter, but he was honest and said that she is one that usually takes care of all of this!

Great stay for family of 10!
My husband and I and our 2 adult children, their spouses and 4 children ages 7, 5, 3 1/2 and 3 all stayed in the house. We had a great time. The secluded setting in the mountains and nestled in trees was just lovely. The house accommodated us very well and had a good amount of room for 8 of the 10 of us to sleep and lots of space to hang and play. We all loved the hot tub and pool with ample pool 'toys'! The fire pit and separate seating was perfect for our kid - and adult - s'mores feast. The large deck with gas grill was ideal for our dinners as well as our morning coffee! Our grandkids even said of the house, "we love this". There is good Wifi inside the house and a TV that had streaming channels for all ages! There are lots of hikes and well as small Catskill towns for groceries, meals out and delicious ice cream in Phoenicia. The owner Peter was easy to communicate with from beginning to end and was consistently responsive. I highly recommend this mountain chalet for a family or group of friends for a fun time!

MDW Trip
Overall, 4.5 stars - great weekend trip for a group of 9 young adults. The home was just as pictured in the photos, and the owner was able to open the pool for the start of the summer season. Sleeping arrangements were reasonable and linens and bath towels for 8 are available with the home. Everyone loved the pool and indoor sauna, and the outside fire pit was nice as well for s'mores and star gazing. Hiking was maybe a 5 minute drive, with several nearby trails to enjoy. Kitchen has most key necessities/pots as well as some items left by others such as spices, condiments, etc...Since this is off the beaten path, be prepared to do a stop at Walmart/Target or a grocery on the way, as the closest "chain" grocery was about 20-30 min drive once we arrived. Only other "downfall" was no cell phone service anywhere near the house (or in town) which made it hard for some contact, however home has WiFi that helped with that a lot when indoors. Friendly & helpful owner, and immediate return of the security deposit, which was great. Overall, would certainly stay again.

Not what it seems
The homeowner neglects to mention that he lives just down the driveway of this house--so while you think you'll have some nice secluded peace and quiet, you'll actually hear him working out in his woodshop (which is even closer to the house) and see him quite often. He also came into the pool at least once a day. Even once when we were out there using it! And one day we came back to see him and two of his friends lounging around the pool with beer. We were hoping to have a relaxing weekend, but we found ourselves constantly wondering when he was going to pop up next. On the plus side, the house has great views of the mountains and plenty of space and light. The deck is nice, and the pool is refreshing. Just decide whether you care if the owner is always around--if I had known, I would have chosen a different place. (Have rented several weekend places and never had an experience like this.)

Mice, Camera, Dissatisfaction! Dirty Rental with Mice - Beware!
We would not recommend Property 103440 to others, as the level of cleanliness fell far below a satisfactory standard: There were mouse droppings scattered all over the house- it was clear that most of the droppings had been there for some time and they could easily have been vacuumed away prior to arrival. My wife screamed one evening after finding a mouse INSIDE the toilet bowl after she had used it. She was mortified. The kitchen sink faucet was absolutely coated with grime and gunk. The sheets in the bedroom were filled with crumbs and debris. The table fan in the bedroom was broken and non-functioning. The walls were scuffed throughout the house; wooden edges of shelves and wall units were splintered; every single piece of dishware, silverware, and glassware had to be cleaned prior to use. The "Master Bedroom" is cramped and one must sidestep to reach the bathroom, where there is no shower, only an oddly shaped therapy/rehab tub that accommodates one person max. There is one shower on the main floor, it is very small (one person only), wood paneled, and has poor lighting. The hot tub is actually in the basement, which has very low ceilings, providing a dungeon-like atmosphere. It was not in sanitary condition and the water smelled very sour. I found a bottle of bromine tablets and put some in, but why this wasn't done prior to our arrival? The cherry on top was the chores asked of guests prior to checking out which included taking out the garbage and walking it down the steep and windy driveway to a shed; and removing the bedding and gathering all towels, to be placed in the basement. We did our chores, and upon returning home I emailed the owner with these complaints. He first offered compensation, but then after I contacted VRBO he CHARGED US $378 (!) for unplugging a cord in the basement, which was visibly and in plain sight labeled “Camera.” We felt uncomfortable and very creeped out by the idea that there were surveillance cameras hidden inside the house, so we simply unplugged this cord from a modem. Perhaps it was for outdoor cameras, but we didn’t want to take a chance. He also included a charge for “breaking into” a locked linen closet. We did attempt to open a closet in search of clean bedding when we discovered ours to be dirty, but when we saw it was locked, tried no more. We have not received our deposit back. We appreciated the quiet of the house, but were quite disappointed in the level of cleanliness.

Amazing Mountain/Nature Getaway!
We absolutely loved staying here — surrounded by mountains and forest (and the clear craftsmanship of a well-built and creative home). The house was even better than the pictures, and felt spacious even with 9 adults and a dog. All amenities were as listed, and it was a fantastic location between various small towns of the Catskills. Excellent to stay here if you prefer to cozy up inside AND also if you prefer to go explore all of the amazing ecology and history in the Catskills. Peter and Lara were on-site to greet us and very helpful with operating everything in the home. No concerns whatsoever!

Mountains Galore
Our late summer visit to the Catskill Mountains was very relaxing even with a 2-year-old. The kids enjoyed the pool the most and the property owners provided many pool toys for all. We enjoyed the hot tub also. There was plenty of room. WIFI was spotty, but no one had to work and that forces us to relax. Everyone reported they had a great time. Family time is the most important gift. Thank you Pete and Lara

Chalet with a View
My partner, children and pets had a four night stay during an unfortunately chilly week in August. We only used the pool once even though it was heated, it was not warm enough to make the outside temps of 65F enjoyable (no fault to the host). The hot tub and indoor sauna were wonderful. The house was thoughtfully appointed for families. The beds were comfortable and the linens were soft and very clean. There are hummingbirds and all kinds of other birds viewable every day with a great view of the mountain range from the deck and many bedroom windows. Large picture windows and sliding glass doors give the home natural lighting and plenty of clean air. We felt the property was private despite the host living just down the drive as you are surrounded by forest for the most part. Future renters, be sure to check out Brios Pizzeria and Restaurant. They have local brews, great food and gourmet desserts. Hiking opportunities all around. Such a gem in the Catskills region.

Lovely home for a remote getaway
We had a great time at the house, in spite of less than ideal weather for our vacation. The hot tub was great and featured lovely mountain views. The kitchen had everything we needed and the beds were very comfortable. I imagine it would be super cozy and lovely in the winter! Would definitely recommend the house for a Catskills getaway.

Great Stay in the Catskills
We spent one week at the Mountain House. We were two families, 8 people in total. The hosts were friendly/communicative when needed and very respectful of our privacy otherwise. The house is ideal for families with kids. The children enjoyed the particularly large pool with plenty of floaties and other pool toys. The house is quaint, with a nice deck overlooking the property and neighboring forest ridge. The kitchen had everything in order to prepare/cook daily meals. It’s a perfect location for sightseeing & hiking day trips in the Catskill region.

Relaxing and fun week!
We rented the house for a week in celebration of my daughters high school graduation. There were only 6 of us and the house was more than comfortable and accommodating. The first few days we had bad weather so we didn’t get to use the pool but the last days were beautiful! The pool Was amazing and clean. The surroundings were peaceful. We enjoyed the jacuzzi almost every night. Peter and Lara were very responsive when asked a question. The view from the deck was spectacular! We grilled every night. The only thing we didn’t get a chance to do was use the fire pit. We wish we had more time there and are planning on returning next summer. Thank you for a memorable vacation!

Great weekend getaway
Lovely place in an beautiful part of the Catskills. I booked this somewhat last minute for a long weekend (our prior plans had fallen through) but was excited to find a place with a heated pool still open. Sadly, the weather didn't really cooperate for use of the pool, but the hot tub was a perfect stand-in. Maybe we'll be back this winter as my daughter really wants to learn to snowboard and the proximity to Hunter would be ideal. My only regret was not being able to bring our 2 cats along. I generally look for places in the summer in the Catskills for 4-6 weeks and bringing them along is a must. But for a long weekend, not an absolute requirement. And I get that most owners are skeptical of cats being well behaved (even if ours actually are).

perfect catskills vacation
Lara and Peter were great hosts and very kind. The house and pool were exactly as listed and have everything you may need including firewood, roku tv, and tons of floats for the pool. The pool is very well maintained and was heated up when necessary. Great location and easy travel to grocery stores, kaaterskill falls, Phoenicia, and other local attractions. A couple things could use minor updating but for us, it was exactly what we wanted.
