Relax for a day enhancing your tan, swimming and dining on fresh seafood at this delightful sweep of fluffy white sand.

Ipioca Beach (Praia de Ipioca) is one of the undiscovered gems of Alagoas state and the perfect destination to let the weight of the world drift from your shoulders. Visit the unblemished setting of pristine sands and inviting transparent water. Coconut palms sway softly in the cool sea breeze and enhance the idyllic image.

The beach has little tourist development, which means that you can sit and enjoy the natural surroundings even more. Go for long walks along the coastline and paddle in the pools that appear at low tide. If the sun gets too hot, sit beneath the shade of a palm tree. Enjoy the opportunity to catch up on some reading.

Marvel at the sparkling blue-green color of the ocean. Arrive early in the morning to witness the spectacular hues of the sunrise. Swimming is safe here due to the calmness of the water. Rent snorkeling equipment from the water sports centers in Maceió for the chance to spot schools of multicolored marine life.

There is one restaurant on the beach, which is part of a waterfront hotel resort. Feast on plates of succulent seafood such as salmão ao molho de maracujá (salmon marinated in passion fruit sauce). Those staying at the resort can join kayak, speedboat and stand-up paddleboard excursions. Treat yourself to a massage after a busy day of activities.

Around a headland south of the beach is a more developed coastal area. Find beachside bars, hotels and posadas. Visit the centuries-old Igreja Nossa Senhora do Ó. The adjacent Ipioca Lookout offers far-reaching views.

Find Ipioca Beach 16 miles (25 kilometers) north of Maceió. The easiest way to get here is to take a taxi. Street vendors sell candy, fresh fruits and nuts on the road from Maceió. To the north is Paripueira, another coastal town with a wide range of tourist amenities.
