"An amazing and unique traditional stay in a small town outside of Kyoto. It is secluded and we were still able travel to Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, and Kobe. Public transportation is provided multiple time every morning, and although I did a lot I highly recommend walking around the trails, and temples. My favorite temple was right behind the hotel, and it held amazing views and was not crowded at all. This was by far one of the coolest experiences i’ve had, and if you are looking for a traditional stay this place is it. They cater to whatever need you might have, and everyone is so nice. It is hard to put into words how much I enjoyed this experience!"

"Staff went far beyond what we expected. Every single person was always accommodating and helpful. The room was magnificent. In hindsight I think a regular tub would have been enough. The huge ceramic outside tub was beautiful, but being from California and drought conditions I felt guilty filling up the huge tub every night. Also eloquent, but if you are seniors, or have any hip/back complaints, there were multiple stairs inside our room. Although shallow, two up at entry. Two down for living room and one up for futon area. We had breakfasts which were eloquently prepared. But beware that they are geared for the Japanese taste (as would/should be expected) so various fishes/seafood and vegetables maybe a bit foreign. Even the ‘western’ breakfast was not typical of the US. On the second morning we were served spaghetti with 2 kinds of fish, cold Japanese rolled eggs, and the ubiquitous salad, and of course rolls/bread. "

"Good Onsen in the mountainous part of North Osaka, excellent food and nice bath, complete with winter sakura blossoming at the outdoor pool. Only 10min walk from a wonderful temple with rare Buddhist art and autumn foliage. Transportation with a hotel shuttle from the Ikeda town, which has interesting Rakugo Museum with English videos and old castle ruins, close to Minoh Expo park. "

"Arima Onsen Motoyu Kosenkaku is known as “La Fontine / The Lodge Arima Resort” in English. The property is located in the outskirts of the main village of Arima and is about 25 minutes on foot up a hill. Travellers with mobility issues may find this property difficult to access unless prior transport is arranged with hotel reception staff. We stayed overnight in a standard Japanese-style room. The room, well-appointed on the top 6th floor, is very spacious and has amazing views of the mountains all dressed.in autumn red-and-gold foliage during our visit. Be aware that bedding configuration is “sleep on the floor laid with tatami mats” and futon that attendants will be setting up neatly for you. Our overnight accommodation included a half board giving us a rare opportunity to spoil our taste buds with authentic Japanese cuisine. The dinner and breakfast meals were served Japanese style by warm and friendly hostesses who were non-judgmental in guiding us through the dining experience. We enjoyed the food and the ritualistic experience. Travelling to Japan, in my view, is not complete without a ryokan experience. To top it all, the onsens are world-class equipped with luxury amenities. We had multiple access to the two hot springs (onsen), Iwa-buro and Hakkaku-do. It was really envigorating and relaxing! If you have the money to spend, this property will deliver a quality experience that is worth every dollar. I recommend it highly!"
