"The Catlins and surrounding coast are well worth a look in any extended NZ trip. Ray and Tania’s cosy cabin was as described. Great hosts, Ray had great advice about what to see and do. A little gravel road for 7km to reach an isolated small rural town far away from the crowds. Clean. Excellent outdoor area with BBQ. Rustic cabin adjoining the main house with attached private kitchenette and bathroom"

The house is clean and welcoming, zoned, with lux inclusions like the big tv, spa pool, deep bath, double rain head shower, open plan living/ kitchen and large garden set in rural location away from it all - Retreat. However, it is equally a great base to explore nature in the Catlins. High recommended."

"This was a great base camp for exploring the Catlins. Beds were clean and comfortable, although I felt I had to wipe down the kitchen before using it. The property was amazing! Beautiful views of the estuary, a peaceful place to walk in the mornings, and good view of stars at night. "

"Second time staying here and although the weather was, again, less than great, it was still a great time and the units and overall space are still really well maintained. Surat Bay is accessible and, further along, so is cannibal bay. Owaka nearby is also a lovely spot for an hour or two, with a solid restaurant, great coffee place, superb book shop and quaint little museum and community space. It is a beautiful spot, far from the world where all you'll hear are birds, the sea and wind moving...

"I had the pleasure to visit the Catlins again this year so took the opportunity to stay agsin in Surat as well this accommodation. The owner very friendly & helpful. It’s a great wee spot & property has awesome views of the sea & bay area. Large grounds as well with outdoor seating. Definitely will stay another time. "
