Old building in Cedar Key
Nice old fishing little town,
In 1989, eight thousand acres in and around Cedar Key were added to the National Register of Historic Places in an attempt to preserve and protect the marshes and wetlands in Florida.

An archeological park in the area provides evidence of early man's "shell cultures" that lived along these marshes thousands of years ago.

It's the perfect place to slip into the water in a kayak (rentals are available in the area) and really experience the rhythm of life up close and personal.

5/5 - Excellent

We used the local boat ramp and it was busy but organized. We lost a kayak paddle during our travels and the local kayak company, that rents kayaks at the corner of the beach, gave us a kayak paddle to use at no cost. The locals were friendly!

Cedar Key is a rustic, fishing town. It had a funky feel. We enjoyed a meal at the Island Room and key lime pie at the Island Hotel.

Cute town; everything within walking distance. However if you are not into fishing or boating not a lot to do. Enjoyed the weekend but would not find myself staying longer
