Go for a woodland walk and learn through guided tours and exhibits about the three families who lived on this grandiose estate.

Brucemore is a vast 19th-century estate comprising a majestic mansion on picturesque grounds. Spread across an area of 26 acres (10 hectares), the estate contains a serene woodland section, in addition to an orchard, formal gardens and a children’s garden. Bring the whole family for a leisurely stroll through the variety of outdoor sections of this impressive complex.

For a glimpse into the splendor of the estate, embark on a guided tour of its 21-room Queen Anne Mansion. Inspect the array of artworks lining the walls and admire the period décor and furnishings. Learn about the three affluent families who have lived on this estate since its construction in 1886.

Snap a photo of the large building, with the complex’s landscape gardens making up the foreground. Enter the Visitor Center in the central hall of the complex’s restored Carriage House, which dates back to 1911. It has exhibits that reveal the history of the estate and the three families who resided here.

Enjoy the utter serenity of the grounds as you explore the formal and specialty gardens. Encounter an eclectic range of vegetation around the orchard and pond. Varied events are held on the estate, including concerts, theatrical performances and festivals. The site’s name refers to the Scottish moors of one of the previous owner’s ancestral home.

Note that the estate opens daily from morning until late afternoon March through December. The Visitor Center and its guided tours are available only Wednesday through Sunday. Pay a fee for tour admission and get half-price discounts for those under 18.

Brucemore is in the Wellington Heights district in the northeastern part of Cedar Rapids. Ride a bus along the avenue that runs adjacent to the estate. You can also drive and leave your car in the parking lot by the Visitor Center for free. See nearby landmarks, such as Bever Park, Indian Creek and Cedar Lake.
