About this property

Entire house - Whale Tail/Ocean Views, Cool Breezes, FibOpt WiFi, Infinity Pool!

Casa Bambu is situated on 1.5 acres of tropical landscape of beautiful trees, palms and flowers. An infinity pool with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, white water beaches, Ballena Marine Park and at a distance – Cano Island and the Osa Penninsula.

The custom house is tropical design, structural bamboo vaulted ceilings and local exotic hardwoods. Unique and charming – the property sits at an elevation of 1100 ft (300 meters) – keeping the house cool and fresh during the day, with mountain downdrafts to cool at night.

A full kitchen with a gas BBQ, bathroom, living area, laundry and covered patio – all on the main floor. (The covered patio is a great for viewing songbirds, parrots, toucans, and aracaris as they visit the mango tree - not to mention the direct view of the Whales Tale and the Bahia.)

On the lower level - a spacious master bedroom with King size bed and incredible ocean views. Offering A/C, quality linens, privacy, and large en-suite, along with a walk-in closet with a safe. Patio doors lead you to a private terrace where your infinity pool awaits.

The house was designed for couples - offering the perfect amount of detail to create an escape from the everyday life of the northern hemisphere. Ideal for honeymooners, personal life celebrations, birders, those who just want to get away from the busy-ness of daily life. This property is serene, but full of plant, bird and tropical life!

You will have the whole house and grounds to yourself. The casita will not be rented during your stay at Casa Bambu.

WiFi at the house is very stable and fast Fiber Optic internet. There is a smart TV in the living room that can be used for streaming and watching movies. There is a washer and dryer at the house for the guests to use. Because the house sits at 1100 ft elevation, guests enjoy cool mountain breezes; however, we have installed air conditioning in the bedroom which can be used for a minimum additional charge based on usage and and the electric meter reading for your actual stay. Most guests who use the AC only use it to cool down the bedroom in the evening and have not gone over the budgeted allowance for electricity.

Access to this property is along an incredible jungle road. (It does have a couple of steep sections to it and requires a 4WD SUV.) The house is about a 15 minute drive from town up a mountain road. There is a locked gate to enter the property and there are security cameras for the entrances to the property. There are no cameras in the house or pool area.

Our property manager, Trina – will meet you in town and escort you to the property.

We stayed at casa bambu for our honeymoon and could not have been happier with our choice. The property was beyond beautiful, private, clean, and just right for a couple to stay. Listen to the host about getting a 4x4 car for the long drive up. The owner and property management were both very responsive to questions before and during our stay. Thank you Peg, Trina & Jorge! We plan to stay again on an anniversary trip :)

Loved!
Casa Bambu is a cozy, beautiful home with absolutely gorgeous views! The drive up and down the mountain is no joke, but you will get used to it after a few times. Just make sure you have 4x4 and hold on! The hosts have thought of everything—the kitchen is well equipped, they have boogie boards and beach chairs, and the towels and linens are fresh and crisp! Our stay was short but lovely!

Beautiful
Very nice house. Clean, well equipped and a wonderful view! Only the way to get there should be considered. It is not very difficult, but it takes some time to get up or downhill to go shopping or out for dinner. But it is definetely worth it! But it is definetely wortth it!

Highly, highly recommend to stay at this house! The location was superb - private, at a top of the hill with the best view for sunrises and sunsets. You are in the middle of the jungle and can hear howler monkeys, see toucans and macaws right from the property! We spent much time just relaxing in the pool watching the wildlife and enjoying the view. The house is very Costa Rica with an ind

Jungle sound machine
We love Casa Bamboo. This was our 3rd time staying in this lovely home and it NEVER disappoints! This year we had incredible wildlife visitors daily. The weather was perfect. Sleeping and waking with the sun to the jungle sounds is healing for the nervous system. Highly recommend!

Life-changing trip!
From the very beginning, this place, the host and property manager was amazing! Super communicative and was totally open to my many many questions lol! Arriving there, Jorge drove us up the insanely steep awesome mountain to this beautiful property! He showed us around and made himself available for any help we needed during our stay. I I can't even tell you with words how beautiful this place and the view is! There's no way anybody would be disappointed by staying here. Thank you so much for an enchanted experience! I can only hope to one day be able to return. PURA VITA!

Relaxing in the mountains
This house is a perfect getaway for two- it's romantic, has amazing views, and Jacqui (and Trina, who manages it when Jacqui is away) were wonderful to work with. We had a wonderful time! Just be ready for 4x4 driving - our rental car lady in San Jose said we wouldn't really need 4x4, and she was way wrong!

Aracaris
Nice property. Great view of whales tail. Multiple aracaris visited a tree 20 feet from the porch every day. Various other birds visited as well. The house was as described and the VRBO photos were accurate and up to date.

privacy and beauty in Uvita
Exceptional value, Decorated nicely. Wildlife, pristine views. All of the Whales Tail, in Uvita, is visable. Our favorite memory is going to sleep and waling up to the sound of monkeys and toucans. The road to the mtn. top is challenging for most, but worth the effort. Trina took care of everything to make our visit perfect. We look forward to our return. Internet is not dependable, a hot spot is helpful.

We didn’t want to leave!
Casa Bambú was so beautiful and comfortable, staying here was a highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. The views are just gorgeous, and we were in love with watching the colorful parade of bird visitors each day. We also loved the little geckos. The home had everything we needed, including a very well equipped kitchen that made prepping meals a breeze. I was pleasantly surprised to even find a set of yoga mats. It really feels like you are staying in a loved and well cared for home. The evening ocean breeze kept us comfy at night, we didn’t even use the AC. Peggy and her wonderful team were very helpful and proactive in communication, getting us settled in and checked out. Extra thank you to Jorge for meeting up with me afterwards to return an item I had left behind! You absolutely need a 4x4 to get there - the road is steep and rocky. We would just do one trip out for the day and got more comfortable with the road each time.

Holiday in the JUNGLE!! 5 Stars!!
Amazing time in Costa Rica! The property is located in the middle of the jungle with amazing views!! This is the first property I stayed at in Costa Rica that had actual screens on the doors and windows that worked! So no worries about any insects or animals getting into the house. The house is extremely clean and well maintained. The property manager is also amazing. She can answer any questions you have and point you in the right direction. She lives a few mins away and checked in with me a few times during my stay. Definitely an amazing time!!

We have stayed in many vacation rental homes over the years. This place -Casa Bambu - was one of the best we have ever experienced. The house is lovely, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The whale’s tail view is spectacular. We spent 4 nights here and most of that time was spent on the upper deck or poolside patio. There are plenty of seating options for sun or shade. The pool is clean and cool. Many different bird species visited every day and we also so saw frogs and a very large green iguana. The kitchen was well equipped and easy to cook in. As mentioned in other reviews, the road up is a little challenging especially the first time and we appreciated Jorge meeting us at the bottom of the hill and guiding us up. The management team was easy to contact and extremely helpful. This was without a doubt our best stop in our 3 week visit to Costa Rica. We would come back in a heartbeat and would recommend without hesitation to anyone visiting the area.

Total Tranquility. Beautiful Home.
This is a beautiful home and we enjoyed our stay so much. I wanted to get "totally away" for my 60th birthday and this place was perfect. The home is located up the mountain, so be prepared with a 4x4 and a fun, bumpy ride! We loved it! We saw so many birds every morning and evening we became "birders". We loved hearing all the wildlife every day. We fell asleep listening to the frogs. The house is well equipped to cook with many utensils and an outdoor grill. The pool is a delight after a day out exploring and the sunset each evening was glorious. We made sure we were back for sunset each evening; it was that good! The house managers, Trina and Jorge were helpful, and things went very smoothly with check in/out. Jorge showed us the way up the mountain the first day, which was helpful. The owner was also really helpful pre-trip with suggestions for the area. Communication was smooth with everyone. We did the Jungle ATV tour and it was a blast. We went to two waterfalls and a coffee farm. Highly recommend doing this. We also drove to Manual Antonio and hiked at the park and ate lunch in the area. Another highlight was walking on the Whale Tail at low tide. It was a beautiful day and fun to look up into the mountains trying to find our place. If you want a peaceful vacation home, this is your place. Be prepared to not want to leave Uvita!

Perfect Stay in Uvita
This was our first time to Costa Rica and we were so lucky to be able to rent this property. 9 days was not enough and we're already planning our next trip! From the start of the trip, Jorge met us at the base of the mountain and escorted us to the home. He walked us through the property and ensured that we understood how the water heater and stove worked (which was super simple). Jorge and Trina were always quick to respond to our questions via Whatsapp. The home was well appointed and had everything we could possibly need. I loved that the living area was separate for the bedroom - I was able to wake up early and get breakfast going while my wife slept in for a while longer. We had coffee on the porch every morning while listening to the howler monkeys in the distance. Multiple species of birds were spotted from the top deck including multiple fiery billed aracaris and a yellow throated toucan that visited often. The pool was perfectly clean and an excellent break from the mid-day heat. A cleaner came by at some point during the trip, but I they were so non- intrusive that I didn't even realize he was there until I noticed the handful of leaves were gone. The drive up the mountain takes about 20 minutes and you'll definitely need a 4-wheel drive for some of the steeper sections. We never felt unsafe on the drive, it is just a little bumpy. Speaking of safety, the home has a huge gate but we never felt unsafe at the home or in town. It was a perfect trip!

Didn't want to leave!
The pictures did not do this place justice. We woke up to breathtaking views of the ocean every morning, which made it difficult to leave. In the evenings you could sit on the covered porch and listen to the rainfall or watch the birds (we saw a toucan). At night, we fell asleep to the sounds of what sounded like a hundred different types of insects and reptiles (including frogs!). It was so peaceful. The area itself has beautiful beaches (out favorite was Whales Tail). The local restaurants were delicious, including the many sodas. I also loved that the area wasn't very touristy, we were forced to communicate in Spanish which was pretty fun! The rental had everything we needed, we used the full kitchen & many candles to make romantic dinners, used the BBQ for grilling up some of the local produce we picked up, took the cooler and beach chairs to the beach for an evening lunch. The only negative was there were some bugs that made there way through in the upstairs area, but then again we were in the jungle. Also, you need a car (and a sturdy one) to get up and down this mountain as the roads are a little rough (but in an adventurous way). Loved loved loved this place and will be back again. Thank you Jacqui and Randy!

8/10 Good

wonderful view of whales tail
Our stay at this little house and Casita was very enjoyable. The view of the Pacific and the whales tail were beyond expectation. The quality of the kitchen far exceeded any vacation rental I've ever rented. All the necessary cookware was provided and the good of the utensils was good.. Since we arrived toward the end of the rainy season the road to the house was not in the best shape but you could tell the road had been maintained and was not a huge problem getting to the house, although it did take us about 25 minutes to get to the rental from the main highway, since I drive the rental 4x4 as I would drive my own car. I've not driven on such steep roads before so it was not that enjoyable of a drive on the steepest S curve section. We only left the house once a day because of the difficult road, which put a slight damper on deciding activities for the day. The only negative thing about the house was the master bedroom closet had a terrible moldy smell so we had to leave it's door closed and could not use the closet. The proprietors did have a dehumidifier in the closet which helped some but still was not an ideal situation due to mold in the walls or ceiling or floor.....or all of the above. The grounds were well kept but long walks were not to be had at the rental due to the steep slippery roads. All in all we enjoyed out stay here.

Outstanding 25th anniversary retreat!!
My husband and I just stayed 6 nights at this little gem on the mountainside. I will say the photos are spot on, but it’s even better in real life. Our stay began with meeting Trina, their delightful property manager who went above and beyond the call of duty to rescue us off a treacherous mountain road in the pouring rain as it was getting dark, and the road was flooded (crazy, but true story!). She made us feel safe and welcome at a scary time in a country we didn’t know, and was patient to allow us a quick trip at the grocery store to get a few supplies to tie us over to morning. We arrived at the property after dark, so to awaken the next day to the sounds of jungle birds and howler monkeys and then look out the window at the breathtaking view for the first time was simply amazing! It would have been easy to stay right where we were the whole time! The feeling of calm and relaxation we felt as we gazed at the view and listened to the jungle was truly a gift to our souls. But alas! There were beaches to discover (Ventanas and Uvita were our favorites), Jungle ATV tour to explore the mountainous region and visit a coffee farm. and OSA canopy tour zip line nearby for some adventure. The road is definitely not for the faint of heart, but becomes easier with each pass up and down the mountain. Try some fish tacos at Los Laurealas! For an amazing dinner experience, inquire with Kurà, the resort up the hill. Trina arranged for us to celebrate our 25th anniversary dinner there. The service was impeccable, and the view at sunset was to die for. Don’t let the rainy season scare you away. We were able to enjoy everything we had planned without rains changing any of them. So if rainy season is best for your travels, come! You won’t be disappointed. Jacqui, the homeowner was so easy to work with as we made arrangements, and checked in with us upon arrival. We are already dreaming about when we can return.

An oasis for the mind, body and soul.
My girlfriend and I spent two weeks at Casa Bambu, and literally had tears in our eyes when we had to leave. If you are looking for a break from your hectic life, need to recharge, and gain some perspective, Jacqui and Randy have created a home that reflects their love of Costa Rica embracing both the serenity of the mountain and the expanse of the ocean from a truly private location. Nestle at the top of a winding road, best driven in a 4X4 , you arrive at a house meticulously cared for , beautiful gardens surround you, and an orchestra of wildlife serenades you. The kitchen is well equipped, airy, and spotless. Whether making fresh ceviche, firing up the barbecue or blending fresh fruit shakes, you won't be disappointed. Jacqui and Randy provided us with great suggestions for restaurants, but most nights we were content to create our own dinners, half the fun was checking out the farmers market in Quepos and Uvita and the local market (BM) had everything else. You can choose to spend your day on the wide veranda, overlooking the expanse of jungle leading to the Whales Tail, floating around their infinity pool, or you can make your way to any number of beaches which suit both the surfer and sun worshipper. A must do...walking the beach of Playa Balena at low tide..your footsteps may be the only ones you see..:) We would also recommend the Uvita Information Centre - very helpful and they use great tour operators. We chose to fly from San Jose to Quepos via Sansa Airlines, (an easy connection) airports are next to each other...which takes about 25 mins and saves the longer drive from San Jose 2.5 to 3 hours. The flight passes over beautiful mountain ranges leading to the sea, so you can get a great overview. We were met in Quepos (a small landing strip) by a representative of Vamos Car rental (they bring the vehicle from San Jose. We got a new automatic 4X4, which was suited to the bumpy off roads of CR. Once you get to Uvita and you head up to the property, it is steep, but well graded now and will be second nature after a couple of trips. As I mentioned earlier, we had a hard time leaving Casa Bambu. After the first night looking up at the stars, listening to all the life surrounding me, I felt like a child again, grateful to have been to given the opportunity to rediscover what so easily gets lost in our busy lives, a sense of discovery, of wonder, in a truly natural world..

6/10 Okay

Amazing house... but was mislead and ultimately disappointed...
First, the owners were a really nice and helpful couple. They would answer all my questions and really made our trip to Costa Rica enjoyable. I hate giving them a less than stellar review, but unfortunately we encountered several issues during our stay. The Good: The house is amazing and in great condition. Everything is new and clean. Juan the caretaker of the property is super nice and willing to help you with whatever. The views are spectacular. Alot of thought went into the design of the house. The Bad: This ad is misleading about a few items. The ad states you are 10 minutes from Uvita and the beaches. But in reality it takes at least 25 minutes to get to the nearest beaches. The road up the mountain is in bad condition and takes about 20 minutes to get up. You will not want to make this drive up and down multiple times during the day. The ad also describes birds singing and relaxation. Both are hard to enjoy when there are sounds of construction going on. Unfortunately there is a small boutique hotel being built about 200 yards from this property. Every morning around 6am the circular saws and hammering started, and they ended around 6/7 pm at night. I was very disappointed that we were not informed of this before arriving. Finally, my last gripe. The pictures fail to capture the other property sitting just below the sightline of the bedroom views. While this property doesnt look into the house or obstruct any views, you should know there is another house about 150 ft below. Based on the description i expected seclusion, but that is not necessarily the case. Before you rent this property, ask about the status of the hotel construction. If you dont mind a little background noise other than birds and monkeys, this is a good property for you. I would rate this property as 5 stars if we didn't have to deal with the bad road conditions or the construction. I really do hate giving a negative review because the owners were so nice. Once the construction is over and the road conditions improve, jump on this property. Until then, make sure you know what you are getting into.

Perfect Uvita Stay
This was the perfect place to spend a few days in Uvita! Located right in the town, it is close to everything but secluded in the hills with amazing views. The house was stocked with all of the essentials, and was a comfortable stay. Communicated with the hosts was great throughout our stay. Perhaps the best VRBO experience we’ve ever had
Exceptional property with management and customer service to match. From our pre-booking Qs, to the moment we checked out, we were so impressed with the communication and professionalism of the process. The home has a classy, understated, functional design that blends wonderfully into its setting. The infinity pool is just the right size and has great views. The AC in the bedroom was nice when we needed it - but the airy, mountain breezes kept our stay comfortable all the rest of the time. Any cooking tools we needed were there, including smoothie blenders, pots, fry pans, juicers and toasters. We found that, given the mountain location and 4x4 road, we limited our trips out to 1 per day for whatever excursions we had planned or eating out we wished to do. The upside to that was that we really enjoyed our mornings and evenings at the property. We will definitely be staying here again.

Rainy season stay
While it was not a typical rainy season according to the locals this year, it was definitely a wet one. We had rain for nearly all day every day. So we weren't able to take full advantage of the pool while there. The house is set in a very scenic area of the mountain, when renting a car to arrive...make sure it's 4x4 but also has good ground clearance. The road is very uneven and difficult to manage in places. We had a Mitsubishi asx and it had trouble due to ruts at times. The property is absolutely beautiful. We heard monkeys 🐒 and birds nearly all morning when having coffee on the porch. A few hummingbirds even visited inside on a morning flyby. Local restaurants are amazing and the locals were always helpful. We traveled to dominical a few times as well for the beach and food. Then down to Marino ballena for a day trip (spoiled by rain unfortunately)... but found an amazing spot for bagel sandwiches at Bagel Time. Jungle atv tours near the house made our day as well. The tour was great and had so much to offer and well worth every penny. We stopped at a coffee farm, and at 2 waterfalls that were absolutely beautiful. I know we traveled in the rainy season, which is not new to us. While we understood the chance of rain was a possibility, this trip was literally rained out. We had to limit our time off the mountain due to road conditions and limitations on visibility when driving. We heard over and over this was the most rain they have seen in Oct in nearly 3 yrs. I will say this bring a sleep mask if you're not an early riser, sunrise was 5am, and sundown 530pm. The bedroom offers some shading but not much in the early morning. Overall the house was perfect. Couldn't ask for more. Communication with Trina and Jorge the house managers was on point and easy. Even when we locked the keys inside 🤦‍♀️...trust me it happens. If you're looking for a private place with no need for the outside world, this is definitely a great option. Thank you for letting us experience your home.
