Home to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the glorious modern stadium, Heinz Field, is perched on the edge of the meeting point of the city’s three rivers. As well as football, the arena occasionally hosts concerts with some of the biggest names in music as well as soccer and ice hockey games. Visit Heinz Field to attend a football game and get a sense of the local culture and passion.
Purchase your tickets well in advance, as the stadium is known for constantly selling out.
Look for the gold lettering spelling out Pittsburgh at the northern end of the field. Enjoy the electrifying atmosphere of a night game and see the enormous replicas of Heinz ketchup bottles crowning the scoreboard. They tip and appear to spill red liquid onto the scoreboard as a touchdown celebration.
You can also book a public tour of the stadium and learn from the guide about the history of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the arena itself, which has a capacity of 68,400 seats. It was built on the same location as the former Three Rivers Stadium. On the Heinz Field Tour, which is available April through October, you can go behind the scenes and take photos in parts of the stadium usually off-limits to the public.
Cross the river and admire the views of the golden terraces of this open-air stadium from Points of View Park. The stadium has featured in the movie The Dark Knight Rises as well as the television series The Bachelorette.
Heinz Field sits at the northern end of North Shore Riverfront Park, on the northern side of the point where the Ohio, Allegheny and Monongahela rivers meet. Ride the metro to the Allegheny or North Side stops or travel by bus to a stop just outside the arena.
While in the area, make sure to see the Carnegie Science Center, the Rivers Casino Pittsburgh and the Fort Pitt Museum.
