We stayed at Deer Country in July 2020. They cabin was cozy, beds were comfortable, amazing views from the front porch, and the owners were responsive. The reason I did not give the property 5 stars is due to the following:
1) The cabin could use a deep cleaning. There were cobwebs in the rafters, stains on the bedspreads and towels, and dust in low-traffic areas. We did email the owners with the glaring things we noticed upon checkin which they quickly resolved, but we did not mention everything because it would have caused too much of a disruption to our stay to get to all of them. I would suggest taking the cabin out of rotation for a day so that a thorough cleaning can be performed.
2) There were aspects of the cabin that should be called out in the listing but are not. For example, there is no dishwasher. This is not a big deal, except that the cleaning of the dishes is left to the renters, and based on some of the dirty dishes I found in the cabinets, it’s clear that not all renters put too much effort into it. Not good, especially in the time of coronavirus. We switched to paper plates/cups/utensils and washed pans before and after using them. Also, the cabin is part of a community of 4 cabins that are fairly close together. The washer and dryer for one neighboring cabin was in a closet that was attached to this cabin, so the neighbors were in and out of our yard, leaving little privacy. If your are looking for solitude, this is not the cabin for you. Lastly, two of the 3 bedrooms are lofts that are open to the main living area. We have kids who go to bed earlier than us, so this was not a good layout for us.
All in all, this cabin has a lot of great aspects to it and with a little TLC and updated listing, it will be perfect for the right travelers.
