We stayed at Villa Sisko in mid-October for a week and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. Ingrid and Lamberto are incredible hosts and did everything to make our visit as comfortable and easy as possible, picking us up at the train station, preparing a delicious ragu pasta lunch complete with appetizers and prossecco upon our arrival, having our laundry done, and arranging a cab service back to the train station when we had to leave extra early on our last day!
The Villa is situated in a neighborhood of Barcola, which is a 5-10 minute bus ride or 25 minute walk to Trieste along the Adriatic coastline. Barcola itself offers many dining options along the coastline, and is within walking distance to Castello Miramare (Maximillian's castle). The walk from the apartment to the water is about 5 minutes, and bikes are available (in the villa garage).
The apartment had everything needed to get started (starter milk, toast, fruit and snacks) and had all the amenities of home, including a fully equipped kitchen. There is a nice literature rack in the kitchen area that has all of the information needed to explore Trieste as well as nearby Slovenia and Croatia. Lamberto took us through a booklet he and Ingrid created of suggested places to visit (tourist attractions, coffee houses, and restaurants). Visitors enjoy their own private garden area complete with lounge chairs, dining table, and a hammock.
We definitely plan on coming back to Trieste and will be sure to book Villa Sisko for our next visit! Thank you Ingrid and Lamberto!
