We take climate change seriously - The Bunkie has green kitchen bags that are compostable and we welcome you filling them with raw fruit and vegetables, coffee (our pods are compostable), tea leaves, along with brown matter such as nut shells, tea bags, dead leaves, small twigs, hay, straw, wood chips, cardboard, newspaper, and cotton rags and leaving them in the black composite bin withinthe bin area at the street side of the property. Never place cooked food, dairy products, meat, fish bones, or fat in our compost bin, as these substances produce odors that can lure pests. Other food waste can be placed in the council red bin. The yellow bin is for cardboard and recyclables. There is a small blue blin for bottles. We also encourage you not to bring single use plastic water bottles on site as we have refillable water bottles for your use while you stay.
Our bathrooms run on pumps and connect to septic. Our toilet paper is recycled bamboo and is the only products the septic can take. Disposal of anything else such as sanitary products, makeup or baby wipes will cause blockage which will impact your stay and necessitate expensive repairs for which guests will be charged. We have bins in the bathrooms for you to dispose of all products other than toilet paper. The tissues and kitchen paper towels we provide are also biodegradable so can be put in the compost or red bin.
We supply linen, bath towels, beach towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, washing detergent and a starter amount of sugar and milk.
The Bunkie is located withinthe Ethel & Ode's propery, however each accommodation has its own defined areas and private areas. Access to The Bunkie, and from The Bunkie to Jibbon Beach is via Neil Street only. In order to ensure all guest's privacy, access to the waterfront via Ethel & Odes is not allowed. When returning from the beach, please wash off in the outdoor shower (hot and cold water) before using the inside shower. We also have a footwater bowl outside the door to clean sand from your feet before entering The Bunkie.
Bundeena is a small town situated within the Royal National Park.Walk the Jibbon Loop Track or venture further into the Royal National Park to explore this natural wonder.
Itis popular with locals and tourists alike for hiking, swimming, birdwatching, watersports and whale/dolphin watching. There are a few friendly cafes and a baron the main street, and plenty of regular local events to experience.
Driving to Bundeena from Sydney takes just under an hour and takes you through the Royal National Park. Please note that visitors driving straight to Bundeena do not have to pay the park entry fee and can proceed through the far left lane at the park entrance. A ferry service operates between Cronulla and Bundeena roughly every hour and the journey takes 20 minutes.
Should the National Park entrance be closed for whatever reason, or simply if you prefer, you can drive or catch the train to Cronulla and catch the ferry across to Bundeena - it is a short walk from the ferry wharf to the Bunkie Ethel & Ode’s. Timetables can be found on the Cronulla Ferries web page.
Your host is contactable by phone or email.
Our team attend the property from time to time to attend bins and garden maintenance. They will say hello if they see you but will absolutely respect your privacy.
If you have dogs that need their own holiday; while we cannot accommodate them, we recommend Hanrob Pet Hotel in Heathcote which is only a short diversion on your way to Ethel & Ode's.
