Before putting a deposit down on this property, know that under NO CIRCUMSTANCES, including a pandemic, will you be able to get your deposit back. We put our deposit down in December (50% of the rental cost) so of course that was before the pandemic. When March rolled around and things were bad, I contacted Julia about getting our money back. We were traveling with a 73 year old and a 67 year old who had previous open heart surgery. With them being such high risk, we were concerned about travel. Julia told me to go back and read the contract (she will not provide your deposit back even if an act of God keeps you away!) I could not believe that she would keep our money . I understand cancellation policies, but it was a pandemic, and we were more than 90 days out - it didn't matter, she wouldn't budge! We were offered a stay at a different time (between Sept and May.) That was unfair because we were paying July rates and several of us are educators who do not have the flexibility to travel during the school year, and don't want to go on a beach vacation during the fall/winter. I asked about changing the reservation to July 2021 - she would not do that. All of the options given were to Juia's advantage and were in no way aimed at helping us out. We have booked many VRBO properties before and nobody has such a ridiculous policy. I can see losing a percentage of the deposit or having a small cancellation fee, but what business person would keeps 50% of a customer's money?
We couldn't afford to go anywhere else knowing we were going to lose all that money so we went. The house was poorly cleaned. I will say the bedding felt clean, but that was it. The floors were grimy, the refrigerator had mold in it and the freezer was full of dirt. The kitchen sink also had a ring of mold around it. We cleaned the place upon arrival because we are people who like a clean place and when paying such a high price for a week you would think you would get an immaculate place. We didn't-the corners of the house were filthy, the window ledge in the kitchen had a bunch of dirt on it, the shower floors felt dirty. The extra blankets in the closets had to be washed because they were clearly dirty. There is a cleaning fee and we left the place cleaner than we found it for sure! This house has a great location, but only rent if you can afford to lose your money and want to clean upon arrival. Also, check the sleeping arrangements clearly - the beds are strangely arranged.
