I grew up in Scotland, MD and this particular house was a house I had been in as a child so the location/property was a given for me - I knew exactly what I was renting and this area of the world is beautiful.
I am very disappointed about communication with this property. I originally found this property on their main website. Because it was not clear how to book on their website, I emailed the owner about booking the property on Feb 8th - this request was forwarded to the owner's staff who emailed me back on Feb 9th and said they would be in touch the next day. Hearing nothing, I asked for an update on Feb 11. Again hearing nothing, I independently found that I could book this property on VRBO some time later. I eventually heard back from property staff in March (a month later) offering to help me book, but I had already done so.
Regardless, I was excited to come to the property and show my husband around and use the kayaks to show him Long Neck Creek, a salient place of my childhood memory.
Upon arrival, I noted that the kayaks that were an amenity advertised were not on the property. I planned to call the next morning to have these brought over. Around 9am, I called the number that was in my booking info and was disconnected twice, and then received no answer on the third call. I did a quick google search and saw that the offices didn’t open until 10am. So, I waited an hour. All told, I called three different numbers multiple times that were linked to this property (including the emergency number). As a last resort, I sent a message via VRBO and received an immediate response that the kayaks were not available due to the season. Not only was this not advertised, but there is another rental very close the house I stayed in which the kayaks are clearly available year round (based on recent guest reviews) and I would have chosen a different place to stay if I had known that this particular property did not provide kayaks at certain times during the year. My husband and I are experienced kayakers and this was an enormous disappointment. I messaged back on VRBO hoping to remedy the situation but received no further communication (not even an acknowledgment of my message). I also let the property know via VRBO that I would be leaving this feedback, and they did not respond.
I’m extremely upset with the communication, both before and after my visit, and will not return.
