Boy, where to begin…We think of Banana Wind as our second home, taking us out of winter, and providing a delightful place to live. Our visits begin with Reynold (Captain and caretaker) meeting us at the airport, taking us to get our car and groceries (got to have a car), and then heading south. We stop for fresh bread and arrive home. The first view of the house and beach and water is amazing. We arrange for Reynold’s wife, Janice, to fix our first dinner-always wonderful with peas and rice and cold Kalik beer.
Our days begin with a bike ride and deciding what to do: look for bone fish in the creek, snorkel out front or someplace else, kayak the bay, go fishing with Reynold to catch dinner (or many dinners), walk the beach, swim, hang around the house…what choices! The house is the perfect size-two bedrooms, 1 ½ baths, nice little living room/kitchen with lots of screened windows to let in the breezes and fans to keep the air moving. And a big deck out in front (hint-the best spot to have cocktail and watch the sun go down). There is a local grocery a short bike ride away, which provides the basics…and depending on the season, local produce. If we do not go fishing for food, we ask Reynold to provide fresh fish-we have become addicted to grouper!! He never lets us down.
The folks on Cat are friendly and helpful. We have made friends we look forward to seeing each year. Reynold is thoughtful, helpful, and responsive to requests and needs and one of those friends! Stephanie and Curt are super-understanding and helpful, and generous in sharing this amazing place. As other reviewers have said, Cat Island is a very beautiful, relaxed, out-of-the-way place. You will not want to come just once.
