We have traveled extensively in Italy, generally for periods of 3-6 weeks. La Porcilaia was our best experience of all. The property itself is a peaceful gem, yet convenient to several towns, the beautiful city of Orvieto, and easy access to Lazio, Tuscany, and Umbria. Bolsena, Civita de Bognoregio, and Montefiascone within 15 minute drive; Rome is just an hour by train from Orvieto. The house was immaculate, nicely furnished, very comfortable beds, and modern bathrooms. We do a lot of cooking, and the kitchen is fully furnished with excellent appliances, cookware, and dishes. But the highlight of our experience was getting to know our delightful hosts Gulia (Italian) and Malcolm (British), who live downstairs. Their friendliness and hospitality were truly exceptional...they provided superb local recommendations for restaurants and sightseeing, were available whenever we wanted, yet left us to ourselves. We had 2 sets of US visitors while there, and they went out of their way to accommodate them. We consider them friends with whom we'll stay in contact.
And the sunsets over Lake Bolsena from our loggia every evening were truly unforgettable.
