This is an older, but well maintained Ryokan. The pools, both private and shared, are wonderful and have a great view over rice paddies.
The service and food were a bit of a let-down. Perhaps it was because as an English-speaker, I was assigned a Burmese worker and a teenage Japanese kid as my hosts, but while their English was very good, their service lacked the refinement, pro-active hospitality and attention to detail that are often the hallmark of a great Ryokan. I did not feel particularly welcome at this property and often felt like staff were just going through the motions to be done with me. The food, while good, also felt somewhat uninspired and bland.
