Been coming to Ocean Isle Beach for nearly 30 years, usually two or three times annually. Wish I’d bought a place years ago, before prices got crazy, but, alas, fate has made me a very experienced short-term renter. This was my first visit to the Ocean View. After four nights there during my favorite month (October), it will be the very first place I check when planning future trips. The Ocean View is an older, traditional-style beach cottage (open kitchen and living room in the middle, two bedrooms and two baths on each side, lots of wood paneling). The obvious highlight is the beachfront location at a comparatively reasonable cost, but I also appreciated extra touches like the updated appliances, new flooring, the grilling area with ash pit, and, last but not least, a great-sounding stereo with CD player. I loved being able to stow my phone, with all its interruptions, and instead of streaming, play CDs I had brought after seeing the stereo listed in the home’s features. Steve was an extraordinarily communicative, friendly, and helpful host, even texting me that the cleaning crew was finished and I could check in 45 minutes early. Great guy. In sum, there are fancier, newer accommodations on the island, if that’s your thing, but this comfortable, lovingly maintained place in an impossible-to-beat location is a truly special find. I didn’t want to leave and can’t wait to return.
