My wife, 5 year old daughter and I had the most delightful time staying at Villa Chateauneuf in March 2019! The property is on a historic estate inside a gated community. The listing is for a small cottage built around a lovely garden with a frescoed dining pavilion. Though next to the large house, it feels quite private. The well maintained grounds include a swimming pool, terraces, fountains and a small orchard, You are invited to pick fresh oranges and lemons. On a hill overlooking Nice and the Mediterranean, the views are stunning as night falls and Nice lights up. In warmer weather the pool and outdoor dining table would have been even more enjoyable. You feel as though you have the place completely unto yourself. The cottage is not large and fairly basic, and thankfully not full of a lot of clutter. The building has old world charm including a few antiques but the necessities are all modern. The heating works very well. One bedroom has a full size bed with large bathroom/laundry room. On the other side are two adjoining bedrooms one with two twin beds and one with a small kid’s bed. This suite has a room with a sink and a bath and another room with toilet, sink and a very cute baby bathtub. Great for a family with a kid or two. It might start to seem cramped with two couples. There’s a studio available for larger groups.
Jean-François is a most charming and welcoming host. The onsite staff were also very helpful. I had trouble connecting to the wifi so I emailed Jean-Francois (using my Orange Holiday SIM card) then I thought I would go shave, I only had a half face of shaving cream on when he called me back and before I could get cleaned up, there was a delegation from the staff at the door anxious to resolve the problem! Which they did.
All in all, this is truly a special delightful place. What a joy to open the shutters each morning, sunlight and the smell of rosemary pouring in. Quiet, save for bird song and a gurgling fountain, it feels quite provençal. You do need a car. The A8 is close by so you can explore the area easily. The Monoprix in Cimiez has everything.
