We had a lovely 4 night stay in Makarora at the Stone House. This is a great, out of the way location if you are looking for peace and quiet.
The rural and rustic setting was just what we were looking for.
We did have a few hiccups with the property and surrounding area.
The house was incredibly cold when we first arrived (we could see our breath in the house) and the pellet fire would not turn on at the wall, so we had to quickly build a fire in the fireplace, which took a while to warm the house. There was ample firewood to keep the house warm, which was needed, as we had to keep the fire going the whole time we were there, including getting up during the night to stoke the fire.
This was a minor issue as it was cold out and we were prepared for it to be.
Also the cafe and shop in town nearby were closed fully for the season, so bring what you need otherwise you’ll be making a trek. Again not a huge deal for us as we had what we needed.
The bridge to the Blue Pools is currently closed as it’s reached the end of its lifespan and not sure when it will be replaced or fixed, sadly we weren’t able to see them.
The beds were all phenomenal and cozy. The electric blankets were much appreciated! And the toilet in the laundry room has one of the best views that I’ve ever witnessed whilst taking a dump.
We would definitely stay again!
