They put me in a smoking, two-bed rooms for the first night, even though I requested non-smoking double bed room. They were very cooperative, and moved my luggage into a new room, 1601, the next day while I was out.
However, the noise coming from the hallway (door slamming and talking) was something I've never experienced at a hotel before. The soundproofing is obviously non-existing at this hotel. I am not a light sleeper, and in fact live on a busy street with lots of traffic at all times, and I'm not bothered with it. The noise at this hotel was something totally different. I took a picture of the door, and it clearly shows the gap, so I suspect that was part of the problem too. This room is right by the elevator, so increased traffic added to it, as well as the proximity of the service room and the constant noise of the cleaning staff added to the horrible experience I had.
I must add that all staff was very friendly, seemed to have listened when I phoned to complain, but I guess could not do much unfortunately.
Room was clean, however, I am pretty sure that previous guests smoked, as the cigarette smell was still there even though cleaning personnel used very strong smelling chemicals and left the window open in efforts to get ridd of it.
In general, unless you are planning to party all night instead of sleeping, I wouldn't recommend this hotel. Across the street there is Central Palace, were I stayed before, and is much better.
Golden Park is nice too.
