Sadly, the town of Hilo does not have the charm, restaurants and nightlife that Kona has. However, we loved coming to this side of the island to see the waterfalls, lava tubes, and do the Umauma Falls Zipline Experience. That place was so great! But there is little to the town of Hilo itself. High crime rate, homeless encampments, tons of abandoned shops, etc. Sad how great it could be. That being said, that makes this house a good sanctuary away from the town. Close enough to get places, but away enough to feel safer. The pictures do not do it justice. Both floors look straight out to the ocean front. Stunning mornings and days just sitting on the porch relaxing. At night time, there are frogs that chirp like a cross between birds and broken smoke detectors. Our first night was the worst. Or we got used to it. That was the only surprise. And there is no AC, which doesn't matter when we went in May, because of the ocean breeze. But if it was super hot out, you would wish they had an AC. Great house, nice stay. Great value, but you will likely be making meals in the house, not sitting at ocean front restaurants like we did in Kona.
