I want to preface that the hotel was undergoing a renovation while we were there, and I don’t knock them for work that was unavoidable.
What I find unacceptable is the lack of safety. The side doors of the building were open without a need for key access and there were many workers coming in and out at all hours for the renovation. I myself (a woman) was sharing a hotel room with my elderly mom. On Friday morning, with our “do not disturb sign on”, someone was able to open our door and attempted to come into our room. We heard a grunt and the person trying to get in sounded like a frustrated man. Thankfully, I had put the latch on so they weren’t able to come in all the way. After this incident, we went down to the front to let them know and change out our keys and deactivate any other keys. The person at the front desk confirmed that housekeeping wouldn’t have tried to open the door with the do not disturb sign in. They did not offer to check the cameras to see if they could figure out who would be trying to access our room. The next morning, around the same time, the very same thing happened. This person was able to unlock our door but couldn’t come in due to the latch.
It is terrifying to be a woman with your elderly mom in the room and know that someone had a form of a master key and was trying to get in. I would not stay here again due to this. I felt anxious whenever we were away that someone could go into our room anytime.
