We stayed at this propery for Father's Day weekend with our family of 4 (2 kids under 12). The unit is EXACTLY as pictured in the photos. The problem is that the hotel and the owner are clearly not on the same page.
To start, check in says 3pm on the listing. We arrived at 3:17pm and we were told by the hotel front desk, "Our check in times are 4pm. The unit is not ready." I explained to the front desk that I reserved this privately owned unit through VRBO and showed her the listing. She quickly said, "The owner should change it to say 4pm or later. That is misleading." So I immediately messaged the owner. He replied right away, and said, "Okay I will call teh front desk and ask when it will be ready." The front desk was there to tell me face to face, "4pm or later." I told the owner he should change the listing. Sure enough, the unit was not ready until 10 after 4.
Once we arrived in the unit, our keys did not work. We had to walk all the way back to the lobby to request new keys. It was 4:45pm before we were inside the unit. The unit was clean and exactly as pictured. It's definitely on the outer edge of the Omni La Costa, so it would not be ideal walking with little kids.
There was NO housekeeping for us the entire stay-- no fresh towels, no sheets/bed service, no ice, no room service. We called to request all of these things, and we were told time and time again, "This unit does not receive these services." So yes, while you might be saving a little money by renting this privately owned unit, you will NOT be getting the full experience of the hotel amentiies (which in my opinion, is getting at least fresh towels every day and getting your room cleaned.) We even asked for ice (there is no ice machine anywhere near by), and they simply declined. I wish I had known we would be forsaking those kinds of simple niceties--or else I would have rather booked through the hotel.
When I wrote to the owner to express my disappointment, his exact response was, "Hello, please read what you booked. Our condo is not part of the hotel. I am sorry you feel that way, but it is clear in our description that our condo is not part of the hotel. There is nothing in there that says that you have room service."
Hmmm... I wasn't asking for room service. We were asking for ice and water.
That being said, we did have access to the pools on property without issue. No gym access though.
Overall, would not rent again.
