This is a tough one. On one hand, it was a great place, close to hiking and Blue Ridge, and the setup was perfect. However, there were some concerning cons. We received a text that our 4pm check-in was delayed to 5:30pm due to the 'busy season,' which felt odd. I called VRBO, and they said I could check out late instead, but I wasn't okay with that. VRBO then contacted the owners, and told me they would to call me to confirm 4pm check-in, but I never received a call. Instead, I got another text at around 4:30 stating the place was ready.
When we checked in property was great and met our needs. Great location and cute place.
However, my oldest found a dead mouse in a trap under her pull-out couch. Not a big deal, but it did look like it had been there awhile. I sent a photo to the owners, who apologized and said they'd notify the cleaners. On the second day, we found mouse droppings in the silverware drawer. Like a bunch of droppings all over the things we use to put food in our mouths! I sent them a picture of that and never heard back.
We had a great time, but please don't treat your guests like an inconvenience. I feel like VRBO and Vacasa both dropped the ball on basic hospitality. Mistakes happen. Own them, repair them and make the guest feel taken care of.
