My husband, stepson, daughter-in-law, and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Gatehouse in Bar Harbor! The location is perfect...within easy walking distance to restaurants, shops, the Town Pier (for excursions), Main Street, and the local supermarket. The kitchen was well-equipped with the necessities of dishes, glasses, cooking utensils, pots/pans, and bakeware.I had read negative comments from previous guests that the check-in process was in need of attention. Let me assure you that the issue has been fully resolved. Check-in was seamless using text messaging for communication and a keyless entry code. A "Welcome" information packet was also received which proved invaluable...great recommendations on things to do, places to see, and where to eat! As noted by other reviewers, this unit is located on the second floor (above a garage which appears to be used for storage). If a member of your party has difficulty with stairs, you might want to consider other options; however, for two people in their 40's, one in their 60's, and the fourth in their 70's, we only struggled a bit when carrying our luggage up. Also noted by previous guests, this is a 3-bedroom unit...one king room, one queen room, and one twin-over-double bunk room...each with its own private bathroom.We stayed here towards the end of a very busy summer season, so the unit was in need of a deep-clean but was in no way "dirty." We're already planning a return trip and would stay at The Gatehouse again!
