The location is why this hotel ranks so high because the rest of the facility is poor to average. It's more of a crash pad than a nice hotel. The check in is easy and led by two polite, sweet young men. The stairs are steep, narrow and spiraled. Not fun with luggage or heavy packs. Our 4th floor room was very small, no closet. The very small sink is located in the very small shower. You have to duck your head under the very small shelf to spit into the sink. If you shower, and then have to use the sink, you brush against the shower door on your way in/out and will get wet. There is no toilet. The toilet area (also very small) is in the hallway, shared by 3 rooms. The bed is not a mattress, but rather a 2-inch pad that kept sliding off. The pillow is large but lumpy. The AC unit worked well, but blows directly onto you in the bed, which may be bothersome. The room is quiet (overlooked a courtyard) but my friends had a room that overlooked the street and said it was loud. You're in the center of the party district, so it could be loud until late at night.
We spent nearly $300 on this room. I would spend a little more and get a much nicer hotel for $400. Caio Papa is a 10 minute walk from the train and cruise ports, but I would stay further out and use the city tram which goes everywhere. Caio Papa is really just a mostly clean dump. If you're young and partying then maybe OK. But, we're in our 50s and want nicer facilities. I won't stay here again.
